Originally from Hawai’i, Tom Lee has designed and performed a wide range of work for puppets, dance and theatre. As a performer these include: Mark Lamos’ Taming of the Shrew at Yale Repertory, La MaMa’s Trojan Women, Jeff Weiss’ Hot Keys at PS 122, Virtual Souls with Yara Arts Group in Ukraine and Siberia, Dan Hurlin’s Hiroshima Maiden. His design work includes sets, lighting, and puppets for SLANT, Kinding Sindaw, Yoshiko Chuma, Tom O’Horgan, Feed the Herd Theatre and Ellen Stewart. He has created the original puppet theatre piece Hoplite Diary and co-created Punch of the Dead. Tom is a recipient of the NEA/TCG Career Development Program for Designers which took him to Japan last year. There he studied with Master Koryu Nishikawa V and Hachiouji Kuruma Ningyo (wheeled puppet theatre). Tom Lee is a visiting instructor at Sarah Lawrence College.
